Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sudha Yadav has been appointed Governor of Karnataka by President Droupadi Murmu as part of a reshuffle involving gubernatorial appointments in six states.
Yadav will succeed Thaawarchand Gehlot as Karnataka Governor.
Yadav is a senior BJP leader who represented Mahendragarh in Haryana in the 13th Lok Sabha from 1999 to 2004. She was appointed to the BJP’s Parliamentary Board, the party’s highest decision-making body, in August 2022. She also served as a member of the National Commission for Backward Classes from 2019 to 2022.
Yadav’s appointment makes her the second woman to serve as Karnataka Governor, after V S Ramadevi, who held the post from 1999 to 2002.
The reshuffle also includes appointments and transfers in five other states. Om Prakash Mathur, currently Governor of Sikkim, has been appointed Governor of Keralam, while Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who held that post, will become Governor of Tamil Nadu.
Braj Mohan Ram has been appointed Governor of Odisha, Dhal Singh Bisen will take over as Governor of Uttarakhand, and Dushyant Gautam has been appointed Governor of Sikkim.
